During our visit to the Humana Festival, our mentor arranged a meeting with the Actors Theatre literary manager. Her name, Adrien-Alice. And I, being the photo maniac I am, asked her to take a picture with me. Aren't we adorable?

Durante nuestra visita al festival Humana, nuestro mentor planeó una junta con el manager literario del teatro. Su nombre, Adrien-Alice. Y yo, como to fanático de la fotografía, le pedí que se retratara con migo. ¿A poco no somos adorables?

From all the plays I saw at the festival, my favorite was "Dark Play or Story for Boys" by Carlos Murillo (Go Latino Power!!!) The play was funny, intelligent, very seductive, intriguing, smart, and very, very dramatic.

De todas las obras que miré en el festival, mi favorita fue "Dark Play or Story for Boys" de Carlos Murillo. (¡¡¡El Poder Latino presente!!!) La obra es chistosa, inteligente, muy seductiva, intrigante, dramática, y sobre todo muy, pero muy teatrica.

One of the people I met at the conference was Richard Perez, a theatre artist and alumni from ASU. He will be directing the reading of my latest play.

Along with Richard, I met his girlfriend Amy. She's funny, intelligent and someone I can gossip till there is no tomorrow.


Una de las tantas personas que conocí en la conferencia fue Richard Perez, teatrero y graduado de ASU. El dirigirá la lectura de mi última obra.

Con él, también conocí a su novia, Amy. Ella es estupenda, chistosa, inteligente y alguien con quien puedo chismear a todas horas.

The festival I was waiting for finally arrived. And after leaving Phoenix at 11:30 pm and arriving in Louisville, KY at 12 noon (That's right, 11 1/2 freaking hours.) I arrived to the HUMANA FESTIVAL for New American Plays hosted by Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Exciting? YES! Interesting work? Yes! Good times? You bet!!!

I met many new people, all involved in theatre, actors, directors, critics, artistic directors, producers, playwrights, musicians, editors, publishers.... and the list goes on. 3 days and 9 plays... Now, THAT is a marathon!!!
El festival que tanto estaba esperando por fin llegó. Después de salir de Phoenix a las 11:30 pm y llegar a Louisville, KY a las 12 del medio día (Así como lo oyen. 11 1/2 horas de vuelo) llegué al Festival Humana de Nuevas Obras Americanas, presentado por el Actors Theatre of Louisville.

¿Emocionado? ¡SI! ¿Obras interesantes? ¡SI! ¿Tiempo padre? ¡¡¡Claro que sí!!!

Conocí mucha gente, todos envueltos en el teatro, actorres, directores, críticos, directores artísticos, productores, escritores, dramaturgos, músicos, editores, publicistas y la lista sigue. 3 días y 9 obras de teatro. A eso se le llama maratón.

This is an ethnodrama (play based on interviews) which utilizes an ensemble of 6 male actor, who together, recreate 28 different roles, exploring the philosophies and beliefs about what it means to be a Latino (gay/straight/bisexual) man, trying to break through the barries of 'machismo, ignorance, discrimination, fear, and misunderstanding.'

If you are wondering what I was doing at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and in NYC, the answer is simple: I was doing my one-man show "LA VIDA LOCA." Everything about the show went well. Now I am waiting to hear from a few theatre companies and future possible productions.

The wonderful ladies in the picture are all students at UCSD. The ones on the sides are undegraduate students who soon will be very famous in the Latino Theatre scene. The one to my left is a PhD student.

Las señoritas en la foto son estudiantes an la Universidad de California-San Diego. Las que estan a los lados estudian su bachillerato y pronto seran famosas en el teatro Latino, mientras que la que está a mi izquierda estudia su doctorado.

"In the Heights" is a new Latino musical playing at 37 Arts Off Broadway. It was so good, so funny, and so musical that we wanted a picture with the poster.

"In the Heights" is un nuevo musical latino que se presenta en el teatro 37 Arts Off Broadway. El musical es muy bueno, my divertido, muy chistoso. Todos queríamos fotos con el poster.

One of my favorite places to visit was Central Park. Part of it was covered in snow, the other part was green.

Uno de mis lugares favoritos fue "Central Park". Parte del parque estaba cubierto en nieve y parte estaba completamente verde.



This is my favorite photo in Time Square. The background shows a sign for "The Lion King," my favorite Disney musical.

My friend Ashley and I spent a lot of time in Times Square, and for more than one day. What made it easy was that we were only five blocks away from the theatre district, two blocks away from the Empire State Building, and half a block away from "The Center of Graduate Studies" at CUNY. So yes, we were all over.

The first thing I did when I arrived in NYC was to go to Time Square and visit the Theatre District. My feelings about NYC as soon as I arrived can easily be expressed in the picture.

Lo primero que hice al llegar a la ciudad de Nueva York fue ir al famoso "Time Squares" y visitar el distrito teatral. Lo que siento por la ciudad de la gran manzana se puede ver facilmente en la foto.

I spent a few days in Durham, NC visiting my friend Ashley who is doing a postdoc at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. I was also there because she brought me in to do my one-man show. The picture you see here is right outside the airport before we both depart to NYC. It is starting to snow. You can see some of the white dots around.

Yes, it is cold and I'm trying to smile. This is in Flagstaff, AZ during the tour of Teatro Bravo's "The Hispanick Zone." I took over an actor who couldn't make the tour.

Winter break was not the best one due to my mother's illness. Yet, at the end things are turning to be good. I am glad.

Miguel and I spent a lot of time together, movies, trips, eating, shopping and having fun. I'm happy.

El descanso de invierno no fue el mejor debido a la enfermedad de mi mamá. Pero al final, todo salió bien. Me alegro.

Miguel y yo no la pasamos juntos todo el tiempo, en el cine, viajando, comiendo, de compras, y divirtiéndonos. Estoy muy contento.

The Sigma Phi Beta retreat was incredible. I had fun despite the fact that the wheather was 22 degrees one day and 12 the next. Those in the picture are members of the Kappa Class, my class.

El retiro de la fraternidad Sigma Phi Beta fue increible. Me divertí a pesar de que el clima estuvo a -5 grados centígrados un día y a -11 grados centígrados al siguiente. La foto muestra solo miembros de mi clase, Kappa.

Finally school is over and I have a smile on my face... along with more wrinkles and a few white hairs. This semester was challenging but very rewarding. I am happy it is over and now it is time to indulge in some good Mexican winter festivities.

Por fin terminó el semester y tengo una gran sonrisa... y también mas arrugas y unas canas más. Este semestre estuvo difícil pero tuvo sus compensaciones. Estoy contento que ha terminado y es hora de deleitarme en las festividades de invierno mexicanas.

Many of us don't have the opportunity to go home for Thanksgiving. However, Sigma Phi Beta has its annual Turkey feast and we, as a brotherhood, gather to celebrate our blessings. There were many brothers present this year, but when this photo was taken, not everyone was around.

Muchos de nosotros no tenemos la oportunidad de ir a casa para el Día de Acción de Gracias. Sin embargo, Sigma Phi Beta mantiene su celebración anual y nosotros, como una hermandad, nos reunimos para celebrar nuestras bendiciones. During this last summer, yes I know, I'm going back to memory lane. I celebrated a relatives' birthday. We were in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. To all of us, just a two-hours drive from were we all live. Guess which one is my cousin and which one is the boyfriend? (I jsut got the picture.)

Finally, the pledge class period is over and now we have 10 new brothers. We started with 15 pledge but those who don’t deserved to be part of our brotherhood were depledged or quit on their own. It was fun… now we enjoy the rest of the semester before starting over in the spring…

Finalmente terminó el periodo de prueba para los nuevos miembros. Ahora tenemos 10 nuevos hermanos en la fraternidad. Comenzamos con 15 pero aquellos que no merecían ser parte de nuestra hermanda, o los sacamos o se fueron solos. Por ahora nos queda disfrutar el resto del semestre antes de comenzar de nuevo en la primavera.
