THEATRE IN LONDON SPRING 2023

 If you follow my blog you know that one of the main things I always do while in London is go to the theatre. I see a lot of it, to the point that anyone that doesn't like theatre and travels with me, at some point will disassociate from me because of it. This time around I was on my own, so I saw lots of plays, and all of them pretty good. And between theatre, I also visited places I've been or have never been before. 

I saw a lot of shows this time. Sometimes two a day. And I thought I took pictures of every show I attended but it seems I didn't but here are a few of them. 

From musicals based on films to old classic mysteries to modern adaptation of Greek tragedies, I saw them all. 

I don't think I have a favorite show because I enjoyed watching plays and musical in London. Although "Back to the Future, the Musical" is on my mind as my favorite musical. I dislike "Six." I understand the premise and the message but, um, they are all actually dead and that wasn't really their lives so I don't see the point of the musical. My two memorable plays were "Black Superhero" at the Royal Court and "For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy," an ensemble lyrical piece at The Apollo Theater in the West End. And my most memorable comedy is "Accidental Death of an Anarchist" at The Lyric Hammersmith Theater." 

England 2018 (Part 6-last part!)

 If you are in London, going to the theatre is a must, especially if you are a theatre artist, like me. And although I promised Miguel we wouldn't do a lot of theatre, we did see four plays (that's not a lot! If by myself or my friend Jimmy, we would see two to three shows per week.)

One play was very short (10 min.) and free. It was also a puppet show so it doesn't count. It was Fantastic though!

We saw a play by The Mischief Theatre Company titled, "The Comedy About the Bank Robbery." Funny, but not as good as their production of "The Play that Goes Wrong."

Our friend Jimmy recommend a new musical, Everyone's Talking about Jaime. So, we went to see it and I loved it so much that I waited to meet the actors and even bought the music and the script. The musical was then turned into a film. It is available now on Prime.

 

We decided to see a second musical, only because the leads in it are famous, it is a traditional musical and it is one of my favorites: The King and I.

And last but not least, we have to attend to my obsession: Harry Potter and The Cursed Child! Talking about 6 hours of great entertainment and magic in one day! The most memorable theatrical experience!

And so, my last entry on this travel journey must end with my favorite thing: Harry Potter. And I don't mean the play, but visiting the Warner Brothers "The Making of Harry Potter" lots in Watford, England. Just a train ride away from London. Really, the trip is easy.

There is more I could show, but I think this is enough. Posting this images from our 2018 trip gives me hope that I will be able to travel in 2022. I hope. The pandemic continues and unfortunately, people still believe it isn't real.

I went to see a play but before that I had dinner at "Los Cochinitos," the name refers to the type of meat they served: pig. But I also think it refers to people who just eat like pigs... like me. 

The play: "Nueva York versus El Tepozito," a Mexican play about a mother and daughter who meet after years of being separated. Daughter lives in NYC; Mother lives in her little Mexican Town. Discuss! It was incredible! Showing at the Centro Elenico.  

Interesting enough, at the same theatre, "A View from a Bridge" was playing on the weekends.

El Palacio Nacional (Our version of the Senate and the Congress) It's an immense building decorated with murals by Diego Rivera. Unlike the buildings for the Congress and the Senate this one is open to the general public.
