The Sigma Phi Beta retreat was incredible. I had fun despite the fact that the wheather was 22 degrees one day and 12 the next. Those in the picture are members of the Kappa Class, my class.

Finally school is over and I have a smile on my face... along with more wrinkles and a few white hairs. This semester was challenging but very rewarding. I am happy it is over and now it is time to indulge in some good Mexican winter festivities.

Por fin terminó el semester y tengo una gran sonrisa... y también mas arrugas y unas canas más. Este semestre estuvo difícil pero tuvo sus compensaciones. Estoy contento que ha terminado y es hora de deleitarme en las festividades de invierno mexicanas.

Many of us don't have the opportunity to go home for Thanksgiving. However, Sigma Phi Beta has its annual Turkey feast and we, as a brotherhood, gather to celebrate our blessings. There were many brothers present this year, but when this photo was taken, not everyone was around.

Muchos de nosotros no tenemos la oportunidad de ir a casa para el Día de Acción de Gracias. Sin embargo, Sigma Phi Beta mantiene su celebración anual y nosotros, como una hermandad, nos reunimos para celebrar nuestras bendiciones. During this last summer, yes I know, I'm going back to memory lane. I celebrated a relatives' birthday. We were in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. To all of us, just a two-hours drive from were we all live. Guess which one is my cousin and which one is the boyfriend? (I jsut got the picture.)

Finally, the pledge class period is over and now we have 10 new brothers. We started with 15 pledge but those who don’t deserved to be part of our brotherhood were depledged or quit on their own. It was fun… now we enjoy the rest of the semester before starting over in the spring…

Finalmente terminó el periodo de prueba para los nuevos miembros. Ahora tenemos 10 nuevos hermanos en la fraternidad. Comenzamos con 15 pero aquellos que no merecían ser parte de nuestra hermanda, o los sacamos o se fueron solos. Por ahora nos queda disfrutar el resto del semestre antes de comenzar de nuevo en la primavera.

My new play LLORONAS (The Crying Women) will have a workshop presentation on November 11 and 18. This is part of my thesis work and I am looking foward to see how the audience reacts to this play.

Today is October 16, 2006. I don’t even remember when was the last time I wrote an entry. I have been so busy with so much stuff that I have been suffering from sleep depravation, headaches and stress.

Hoy es Octubre 16, 2006. No recuerdo cuando fue la última vez que escribí algo para este blog. He estado tan ocupado con tantas cosas que sufro de insomnio, dolores de cabeza, y estrés.

Welcome to my last year of graduate school. It isn’t fun. It is all about work, work, work!

Bienvenidos a mi último año de postgrado. No es divertido. Es puro trabajo, trabajo, trabajo!

I have to say that if it wasn’t for the fraternity. I would go crazy. And thanks to the fact that this time we have a great pledge class, I am having some fun.

Tengo que admitir que si no fuera por al fraternidad, me volvería loco. Y gracias a que esta vez tenemos un buen grupo de prospectos, me he divertido.

Speaking of pledge class. The little ones (as I like to call them) played a prank on me. They decorated my car with balloons, confetti, toilet paper, and some obscene things. It was cute, but the worse part was that they dumped about a pound of flower at all over my truck. The result: a big mess for which they are paying.

Hablando de candidatos. Los pequeños (como me gusta llamarles) me hicieron una broma. Decoraron mi carro con globos, confeti, papel de baño y cosas obscenas. Eso estuvo bien, pero lo malo fue que se les ocurrió vaciar dos kilos de harina en mi camioneta. El resultado: un error muy grande por el cual están pagando.

School has been very excited. I have three classes, which keep me busy. Besides the classes, I have projects, which also keep me busy.

Las clases se han convertido en algo fascinante. Tengo tres cursos los cuales me mantienen ocupado. Aparte de las clases tengo algunos proyectos, los cuales también me tienen super ocupado.

I guess the most exciting thing going on right now is the production of one of my one-act plays. It is titled “MIDNIGHTS.”

It is the story of a man who wakes up to find out that he doesn’t know who he is, where he is, why he’s there and what has happened to him. With the help of a counselor, he starts remember everything. However, not everything is what it seems.

Creo que lo excitante en estos momentos es el hecho que una de mis obras de un acto se producirá a finales de Octubre y a principios de Noviembre. Se titula “MIDNIGHTS” y es la historia de un hombre que despierta sin recordar absolutamente nada. Con la ayuda de un psicólogo, comienza a recordar quien es, donde está, y porque está donde esta. Sin embargo, no todo encaja muy bien.

The show will be at the end of October and the beginning of November. Like anything else, I am very excited, but I try to keep my excitement as control as possible.

La verdad me agrada la idea de la obra y trato de controlar mis emociones lo más que puede, pues si les doy rienda suelta, no las podré controlar.

My house is two miles away from the university and it takes me 20 minutes to get to it, using my bicycle.

I am now in Tempe, Arizona, ready to start my last year of graduate school. The temperature is about 110 degrees and there is no way to walk half a block without sweating. And when it comes to sweating, I sweat like a pig.

Many of you have asked about my love life and my boyfriend. The reason is that I like to keep my love life to myself. Many of you, however, refer to this fact as something I want to hide.

Here is the answer: My boyfriend and I don’t want to keep our relationship hidden; we just like to keep it private. But since many of you insist, I guess we just have to show you a few pictures of us together.

Mi respuesta es: No quiero ocultar nada solo quiero parte de mi vida fuera del conocimiento general. Pero como muchos han insistido, creo que les mostraré algunas fotos de mi novio y yo.

All the pictures are from this present year: The first one is from a party in January. The second one is from San Jose Gay Pride in June. And the last one is the famous picture that appeared in "The Advocate" Magazine.

My trip ended on July 18. Now I am back in California visiting my mother, brothers, sisters, and their children for the next three weeks. While I’m here, I need to get back in shape so I can wear my clothes before heading back to my last year of schooling at ASU.

Mi viaje terminó el 18 de julio. Ahora estoy de regreso en California visitando a mi mamá, mis hermanos, mis hermanas y sus hijos por tres semanas. Mientras estoy aquí, necesito ponerme en forma físicamente una vez más para así poder ponerme mi ropa, y poder regresar a la universidad y terminar mi último año de carrera.

I was back in Mexico City for my third and last time. Once again, I spent my time with my sister and her children, going out to the theatre, dinner, shopping, and nightclubs.

Regresé a la Ciudad de México por tercera y última vez. Una vez más estuve con mi hermana y sus hijos, saliendo al teatro, a cenar, de compras y a clubes nocturnos.

Of course, no trip is complete without a little political uprising. Due to the presidential elections results and because one of the main candidates didn’t accept the results, protests and strikes started to happen in the ZOCALO. While shopping, I happened to be near el ZOCALO so I went there to have a more close and personal experience. I learned that the PAN (our version of the Republican party) candidate was unofficially named the winner but the PRD (our version of the Democratic party) candidate accused the PAN of dirty dealings. For this reason, the PRD candidate was demanding a vote-by-vote recount. Does this bring any memories?

Claro que un viaje no se completa sin algo de política. Gracias a los resultados de las elecciones, uno de los candidatos no aceptó el perder y pues se organizó mucho relajo en el ZOCALO. Mientras yo andaba de compras noté el relajo y me acerqué un poco para ver más. Descubrí que el PDR quiere que cuenten “voto por voto” mientras el PAN se corona vencedor. Según el candidato del PDR, el PAN hizo trampa. ¿Les recuerdo eso a algo que pasó aquí en el 2000?

My next stop was the city of Puebla, Mexico. La Ciudad de los Angeles. This is the city where the battle between the French Army and the Mexican Indians took place, thus having a holiday known as “Cinco de Mayo.” And no, it isn’t Mexican Independence Day.

Puebla, la Ciudad de los ángeles fue mi siguiente parada. Es en esta ciudad donde la gran batalla entre las tropas francesas y los indios mexicanos se llevó a cabo, convirtiéndose así en un día especial llamado “Cinco de Mayo.” Y no, no es el día de la independencia.

It is in this city where the two famous volcanoes stand side to side: The Ixtacihuatl and the Popocatepec. Both having sleeping but once in a while they snoore, scaring the residents of the city.

Es también en esta ciudad donde se encuentran los dos volcanes famosos uno a un lado del otro: El Ixtacihuatl y el Popocatepec. Los dos han estado dormido pero de vez en cuando, roncan asustando a la gente de la ciudad.

Puebla is also known for its MOLE and its Chiles en Nogada, which I ate with gusto.

Puebla también es conocido por su mole y sus chiles en Nogada, los cuales comí con gusto.

Another great experience in Oaxaca was my visit to the small town of TULE, only 11 miles away. The town is famous for its “Tule Tree.”

Otra gran experiencia fue mi visita a un pequeño pueblo fuera de la ciudad llamado TULE (solo 6 kilómetros.) El pueblo es famoso por su “Árbol de Tule.”

At over 2000 years old, “El Arbol de Tule,” which is actually an Ahuehuete Cypress, is amongst the oldest living trees in the world. With a 33 feet diameter trunk it is also considered by many to be the broadest tree in the world. The circumference of the trunk is 178 feet. It is over 130 feet high; its foliage diameter is over 170 feet and weighs over 500 tons.

Casi más de 2000 años de viejo, “El Árbol de Tule”, que en realidad es un Ciprés Ahuehuete, es el árbol más viejo entre todos los árboles. Con un tronco de 10 metros es considerado el más grande del mundo. La circunferencia del árbol es de 54 metros, casi 70 metros de alto, su diámetro completo es casi de 90 metros y pesa 500 toneladas.

The food and the market place are incredible, but after visiting the tree, I have no words to describe anything else.

La comida y el mercado son algo especial en el pueblo pero después de ver el árbol no me quedaron palabras para otra cosa.

My visit to Oaxaca was incredible, but due to the strikes I couldn’t see everything. I plan to go back in the future.

Mi visita a Oaxaca fue algo increíble pero debido a la huelga no pude ver mucho. Tengo planes de regresar en un futuro no muy lejano.

5 miles away from Oaxaca City and high in a mountaintop we found MONTE ALBAN, once the main capital of the Zapotecs. The Ruins extend over the peaks of 3 mountain ranges that converge in Oaxaca’s central valley at an altitude of about 5200 ft. There are lots of codices, which for the first time I saw face to face instead of looking at them in books. It was a very overwhelming experience.

2 kilómetros y medio fuera de la ciudad y en lo alto de un gran cerro se encuentra MONTE ALBAN, que en su tiempo era la gran ciudad capital de los Zapotecas. Las ruinas se extienden a lo largo de grandes planadas de varias montañas a una altura de 1,600 metros. Existen grandes códices que por primera vez miré en persona en lugar de verlos en un libro. Las emociones son inexplicables.

Nightlife in Oaxaca City is fun, but due to the fact that there was a schoolteachers’ strike, the main city’s plaza was taken by the teacher so it wasn’t as beautiful as it could have been. Still, there were a lot of tourist, mostly Germans and French.

La vida nocturna en la ciudad de Oaxaca es divertida. Pero debido a que los maestros estaban en huelga, la plaza principal estaba ocupada por ellos así que las cosas no fueron como se esperaba. Aún así, había mucho turismo, la mayoría franceses e ingleses.

There is a seven block (all in a straight line) section of the city known as the “andadero” or walk way. It is called the “andadero” because people walk up and down the streets visiting bars, dance clubs, restaurants, shops, libraries, cafes, chocolate restaurants, (where the main drink is hot chocolate), bookstores, jewelry stores, etc… No cars are allowed in this section of the city from about 5 pm until 5 am. Yes, it is fun! Yes it is packed! And yes, it is full of hot men and women so the “andadero” becomes the main place to “meet” one, two or three men or women or both.

Existe un área de la ciudad de siete manzana (en línea recta) conocido como “El Andadero.” Se llama así porque la gente sube y baja por esa recta visitando bares, clubes de baile, restaurantes (donde la bebida principal es chocolate) librerías, joyerías, y mucho más. Los autos no están permitidos en esta área de las 5 de la tarde a las 5 de la mañana. Sí, es muy divertido caminar en El Andadero. Siempre está lleno y siempre hay hombres y mujeres muy sexy. El Andadero se convierte en el lugar para “conocer” a uno o dos hombres o mujeres o a las dos cosas.

Oaxaca’s official alcoholic drink is MEZCAL, made out of Maguey. To understand more about the drink, Luis and I visited “La Fábrica del Mezcal,” where a very talented guide took us through the factory in order to show us in detail how mezcal is made. It was a fascinating learning experience. At the end of the tour, the guide made us taste all types of mezcal, so yes, we were both drunk. See the bottles on the counter? That's how many different mezcal we tasted. I was soon seeing pink flying elephants and pigs.

La bebida oficial del estado de Oaxaca es el MEZCAL, hecho del maguey. Para entender la bebida Luis y yo visitamos “La Fábrica del Mezcal” donde un talentoso guía nos mostró con detalle todo el proceso para hacer mezcal. Fue algo muy interesante y educativo. Al final del “tour,” el guía nos ofreció pruebas de los diferentes mezcales que se hacen, así que sí, estábamos tomados. ¿Ven las botellas en el mostrador? Cada botella es un mezcal diferente que probamos. Muy pronto comencé a ver elefantes y cochinitos rosas volando alrededor de mí.

24 miles outside Oaxaca City we found MITLA (in Nahuatl it means “Place of the Death.” And it is rightfully so because the entire ruins in MITLA are nothing but large pyramids that serve as tombs for high priests and kings of the Zapotec and Mixtec tribes.

12 kilómetros a las afuera de la Ciudad de Oaxaca se encuentra MITLA (en Nahualt significa “Lugar de los Muertos.”) Y ese nombre es perfecto pues las ruinas de MITLA son grandes pirámides que sirvieron de tumbas para sacerdotes y reyes de las tribus Zapotecas y Mixtecas.

Something fascinating about these ruins, other than the fact they are massive and very impressive, is their decorative carving. Everything is very linear and geometric, something that was combined with hieroglyphics done on red stone.

Algo fascinante acerca de las ruinas, aparte de ser impresionantemente enormes, es su decoración. Todo es linear y geométrico, algo que se combinaba con el jeroglífico hecho en piedra color rojo.

During the Spanish conquest, the conquistadores destroyed most of the pyramids and built churches a top of the pyramids thus replacing the ancient Zapotec and Mixtec Gods for Christian Gods.

Durante la conquista española, los conquistadores destruyeron la mayor parte de las pirámides construyendo iglesias encima de la pirámides. De esta manera remplazaban los dioses de los Zapotecas y los Mixtecas con los dioses cristianos.

OAXACA

Oaxaca State is the home of 25% of the total Mexican Indian population, which means there are about 90,000 Mexican Indians living in Oaxaca State. The Mexican Indians are divided in three groups and each group in different tribes:

The Mixteca: Mixtec, Trique, Chocho, Amuzgo, Ixcatec, and Nahua.

The Zapoteca: Zapotecs, Chatin, and Chontal

The Northern Zone: Mazatec, Chinantec, Mixe, and Cuicatec
My visit to the state was only concentrated to the Capital, which is the Oaxaca City and the surrounding areas. That meant I was around the Zapotecs, Chantin, Chontal, and some of the Mixteca tribes at all times.

El estado de Oaxaca es la case del 25% del total de los indígenas del país. Esto quiere decir que hay 90,000 indígenas viviendo en el estado de Oaxaca. Los indígenas en Oaxaca están divididos en tres grupos y éstos en otros subgrupos:

Los Mixtecas: Mixteca, Trique, Choco, Amuzgo, Ixcateca, y Nahua.

Los Zapoteca: Zapotecas, Chatin, y Chontal.

For the second time I was now back in Mexico City spending a few days with my family before joining my friend Luis and heading off to Oaxaca State for a week.

Por segunda ocasión estaba de regreso en México pasando algunos días con mi familia antes de irme a la ciudad de Oaxaca con mi amigo Luis.

Luis is from Mexico City. We met years ago while we both lived in the Bay Area: he lived in Oakland, CA and I lived in Walnut Creek, CA. But then, because of family issues, he moved back to Mexico City and since then we have kept in touch. When he comes to California, I try to spend time with him. When I go to Mexico City, he tries to spend time with me. This time it was his turn to take me to Oaxaca, Mexico.

Luis es de la Ciudad de México. Nos conocimos hace años mientras que los dos vivíamos en el área de la bahía de California. El vivía en Oakland, yo en Walnut Creek. Pero, debido a asuntos familiares Luis tuvo que regresar a la Ciudad de México y desde entonces nos mantenemos en contacto. Cuando él viene a California, yo trato de pasar un tiempo con él. Cuando yo voy al DF él trata de pasarse un tiempo con migo. Esta vez era su turno de llevarme a Oaxaca, México.

Guadalajara & NAACS

The main reason for going to Mexico was to attend the National Association of Chicana/o Studies Conference (NACCS) in Guadalajara City, which became my third stop.

The conference was no different than any other conference, a week full of paper presentations, workshops, and discussions concerning immigration, borderland theatre, Chicana feminism, Chicana/o studies, gay, lesbian, transgender Chicana/o issues, Chicano poetry, music, and oh, so many other things that I can go on forever.

La razón principal de ir a México fue para participar en la Conferencia Internacional de la Asociación Nacional para los Estudios Chicanas y Chicanos (NACCS)la cual se llevó en la Ciudad de Guadalajara, Jalisco.
La conferencia fue como toda otra conferencia, presentaciones, talleres, discusiones y todo acerca de inmigración, teatro fronterizo, Feminismo Chicano, Estudios Chicanas/os, Estudiso gay, lésbicos, transgéneros Chicanas/os, Poesía Chicana, música y muchas otras cosas que puede hacer una lista enorme.

One of my favorite events was the “open mic” session where anyone had the opportunity to show any talent other than academics. So yes, there were people who danced, did poetry, played instruments, did solo performance pieces, sang, did stand up comedy, etc…

I, of course, participated by showing a little of my acting talent (or lack thereof.) I presented a selection from my one-man show as a sneak peak to my official presentation later in the week.
The conference lasted a week and we were having way too much fun, with plans to seal the event with a huge party celebration.

Uno de mis eventos favoritos fue el “open mic” donde cualquier persona de la conferencia podía participar demostrando un talento fuera de lo académico. Así que hubo poetas, cantantes, actores, músicos, artistas de performance, y comediantes.

Yo, por supuesto, participé demostrando un poco de mi talento de actor, (o la falta de éste.) Presenté una selección de mi obra unipersonal, algo para que se animaran a verla después.
La conferencia duró una semana y estuvo muy divertida, con planes de terminar con una gran fiesta.

Unfortunately everything came to a sudden stop when, because of the presidential elections, a Mexican law requires the ENTIRE country to stop selling alcohol from two days before the election until a day after the election. And although we don’t need alcohol to celebrate, because of such law, all restaurants, bars, dance clubs, and entertainment centers were close. So the last two days were not as fun because we all knew there was nowhere to go and party at night. Luckily, my presentations were done a day earlier so I didn’t have to stick around any longer. I said good-bye to my colleagues, my new and old friends, the city itself and headed back to Mexico City a day earlier than planned.

Desafortunadamente, todo paró cuando, debido a las elecciones presidenciales, una ley mexicana le pide a todo el país que no se venda alcohol dos días antes y un día después de las elecciones. Y aunque no se necesita alcohol para divertirse, debido a esa ley, muchos restaurantes, bares, discos, clubes y centros de entretenimiento cerraron sus puertas. Así que nos quedamos sin lugar para celebrar. Afortunadamente, mi trabajo terminó un día antes así que le dije adiós a los nuevos amigos y viejos colegas y regresé a la Ciudad de México un día antes de lo planeado.

Michoacán

My second stop during my trip to Mexico was in the state of Michoacán. Some of my teacher friends and I went to Uruapan, a small town surrounded by beautiful vegetation and incredible mountains. Their official tree and fruit is the avocado. There were avocado trees everywhere and the avocados were as big as three pounds each.

The majority of the people living in the Uruapan surrounding areas are Purepecha Indians, a people who still speak its own native language and Spanish and whose main talent is wood crafting. They made the most amazing furniture, all by hand, and they sell it right in front of their houses.

Mi segunda parada en el viaje fue en el estado de Michoacán. Algunos de mis colegas y yo visitamos la hermosa ciudad de Uruapan, la cual está rodeada por mucha vegetación e increíbles montañas. El árbol oficial es el aguacate así que por todas partes había huertas de aguacates, y los aguacates eran tan grandes que algunos llegaban a un kilo y medio.
La mayoría de la gente que vive alrededor de Uruapan son indios Purepecha, un grupo de indígenas que hablan su propia lengua y el español, y que como talento principal destacan en el tallado de madera. Hacen algunos de los muebles más lindos que he visto y los venden frente a sus propias casas.

After spending a day and a night in Uruapan, we hike a famous volcano: PARICUTIN. It took us 6 hours to go up and down the volcano. Most of the hike was over lava rocks formations, very sharp and difficult paths to walk. In fact, one of my friends lost its balance and felt. His right leg was bloody. He wasn’t in bad shape so we all continued the hike in a slower pace.

Después de pasar un día y una noche en Uruapan, subimos el volcán PARICUTIN. Nos tomó 6 horas en subir y bajar. La mayor parte del viaje fue sobre rocas de lava, muy altas y puntiagudas, lo cual hizo la gran caminata un poco difícil y peligrosa. Es más, uno de los amigos se cayó y se lastimó una pierna. No fue algo muy grave así que continuamos nuestro viaje con poco mas despacio.

The last time the PARICUTIN volcano was active was in the late 40s. It caused a lot of destruction and even buried an entire town. Luckily, the eruption was slow and the people were able to survive. Today, the only thing that remains from the town is one of the church towers.

La última vez que el PARICUTIN estuvo en acción fue en los años 40s. Causó mucha destrucción y arrasó con un pueblo completo. Afortunadamente la lava descendió despacio así que la gente pudo salir a tiempo. Hoy, lo único que queda del pueblo es una de las torres de la iglesia.

Mexican Trip

I spent a month in the Mexican Republic. It was a lot of fun with a lot of projects going on. My first stop was in Mexico City where I visited with friends and family and saw several shows, among them: Selena, The Musical, Cama Para Dos, (A Bed for Two) El Chat, and Baño Turco (Steam Room.) None of the shows, except for “Cama Para Dos” had any good writing or substance in it. “Selena, The Musical” had substance and good music, of course, but the show needed a good script and a better vision.

Me pasé un mes en la República Mexicana. Fue algo extraordinario con mi trabajo y otros proyectos. Mi primera parada fue en la Ciudad de México donde visité a algunos amigos y a mi familia, también fui al teatro varias veces. Algunos de los espectáculos de teatro que atendí fueron: Selena, el musical. Cama para dos, El Chat, y Baño Turco. Excepto por “Cama para Dos” ninguna obra tenía buen guión o algo que valiera la pena. “Selena, el musical” ofreció buena música pero desafortunadamente le faltó un buen guión y una buena visión creativa.

Gay Immigrants

In the month of June “The Advocate,” which is the gay and lesbian newsletter magazine, ran an article on gay immigrants. And guess who is feature in the article? That’s right, yours truly and my partner Miguel. And yes, there is a full-page picture of the two of us.

En el mes de junio, la revista “The Advocate” publicó un artículo acerca de latinos gay inmigrantes. ¿Quién creen que es sale en ese artículo? Pues sí. Yo y mi pareja Miguel. Y si, hay una fotografía de nosotros dos del tamaño de dos páginas.

IMMIGRANTS PROTESTS

May 1, 2006. To the surprise and horror of many people, thousands of immigrants from ALL OVER THE WORLD marched in solidarity demanding respect and equality.

May 1, 2006. Para la sorpresa de muchas y el horror de otros, miles de inmigrantes de todo el mundo decidieron marchar en solidaridad por el respeto y la igualdad.

I watched the events unfold all over the country and even in Mexico City. By day’s end, about 1,000,000 people participated in the “A Day without Latinos” movement.

Yo observé los eventos en todo el país y hasta en la Ciudad de México. Al final del día 1,000,000 de personas participaron en el movimiento “Un Día sin Latinos.”

Many of my friends said it was stupid of immigrants to do such thing. Others said it was the right thing to do. Others said immigrants should just go back to their country.

Muchos de mis amigos dijeron que era estúpido de los inmigrantes hacer lo que hicieron. Otros dijeron que estaban en lo correcto. Muchos otros dijeron que los inmigrantes deberían de regresar a sus países.

I was asked what I thought and I simply smiled, not because I didn’t have an answer but rather because asking me what I think of such protests is like asking me if I like to speak in my native language.

Me preguntaron que opinaba y solo sonreí, no porque no tuviera respuesta si no porque al hacerme esa pregunta es como si me preguntaran si me gusta hablar en mi lengua natal.

1. Immigrants reserved to be respected.

2. Immigrants are people who work hard to be here, no matter if they illegal or not.

3. Immigrants that have been here for so long (15 yrs or so) have no homes back in their native countries.

4. Immigrants are a strong force in our American economy.
5. Immigrants are not terrorists.

1. Los inmigrantes se merecen el respeto de todos.
2. Los inmigrantes son personas que trabajan mucho para estar en este país, sin importar si son ilegales o no.
3. Los inmigrantes que han estado aquí por lo menos 15 años no tienen hogares en sus países de origen.
4. Los inmigrantes son una fuerza muy grande para la economía de los Estados Unidos.Los inmigrantes necesitan nuestro apoyo.

If you don’t agree, then tell me:

1. Why does the government knowing very well where illegal immigrants gathered, do not capture them?

2. Why, if the government doesn’t want illegal people in this country, does he provide IRS number so illegal people can filed taxes at the end of the year?

2. Why, if the government wants to get all of the illegal immigrants out, doesn’t it go directly to the factories, fields, stores, and other places were thousands of them work everyday?

3. Why, if the government is trying to build a wall between the Mexican and American border, doesn’t it do it just the way it invaded the Middle East?

1. ¿Por qué el gobierno, sabiendo donde se reúnen los ilegales, no los captura?
2. ¿Por qué, si el gobierno no quiere a los ilegales en este país, provee números de identificación a personal ilegales para que al final del año hagan impuestos?
3. ¿Por qué si el gobierno quiere a todos los ilegales fuera del país no va a las fábricas, tiendas, y otros lugares donde sabe que trabajan a diario?
4. ¿Por qué, si el gobierno está tratando de construir una barda entre las fronteras de México y los Estados Unidos, lo hace de la manera que invadió al Medio Oeste?

Do you want to know why? Because the government knows it is not in the best interest of the country, because illegal immigration is good business for America, because like it or not, if all illegal people are sent back to their respective countries, no Anglo-American will take the jobs illegal people do.

¿Quieres saber por qué? Porque el gobierno sabe que no le conviene deshacerse de los inmigrantes ilegales pues es buen negocio, porque te guste a ti o no, si todos los inmigrantes ilegales son mandados a su país de origen, los Anglo-sajones no se prestarán para hacer los trabajos que los ilegales hacen.

For those people who are strongly saying “go back to Mexico,” I have a few things to say:

Y para aquellas personas que tienen un deseo enorme y siempre dicen que “regresen a México,” tengo algo que decirles:

1. Not all illegal immigrants are from Mexico.

2. Not all illegal immigrants are gang members, or drug dealers, or robbers, or drug addicts, or alcoholics. Look within your own family and people, you find them there too.

3. Mexico is the point of entry for all Latin American's illegal immigrants, but Mexico isn’t responsible for everyone.

4. If you keep saying this is not your land, remember: Your ancestor IMMIGRATED to this country, and KILLED many of the people who already lived here.

1. No todos los inmigrantes ilegales son de México.
2. No todos los inmigrantes ilegales son miembros de pandillas, o drogadictos, o vendedores de drogas o armas, o ladrones, o cosas por el estilo.
3. México en el punto de entrada para todos los países Latino Americanos y sus inmigrantes ilegales, pero México no es responsable de todos.Si siguen diciendo que esta no es su tierra, recuerda: Tus antepasados INMIGRARON a este país, y MATARON a las personas que vivían aquí antes, incluyendo a muchos Mexicanos.

MY PASSION

Many of you have said that I have not written anything about what I do. Here's the answer.

Muchos se han preguntado que es lo que hago. Aquí está la respuesta.

I am an actor. I have been an actor for many years, and as such, I have been in many shows, from dramas, comedies, dance performances to musicals.

Soy actor. Lo he sido por muchos años y como tal he participado en infinidad de obras, desde dramas, hasta comedias y obras infantiles y hasta musicales.

I am a playwright. I have written many one-acts, a few children’s plays, one-man shows and some full-length plays.

Soy dramaturgo. He escrito muchas obras, desde obras infantiles hasta dramas y comedias. De un acto, de dos actos y hasta obras unipersonales.

I am an educator. And for the last 10 years or so I have taught classes in theatre movement, theatre history, theatre appreciation, playwriting, directing, acting, choreography, and Chicano theatre.

Soy catedrático. He dado clases de baile, historia del teatro, escritura, dirección dramática, actuación, coreografía, e historia del teatro Chicano por los últimos 10 años.

I am a director. The list of plays and musicals I have directed is long, but the ones I am proud the most are: “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Stand Up Tragedy,” “Pinocchio,” “The Lady in Question,” “Pippin,” “The Author’s Voice,” “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Sex, Shame, and Tears,” “Footloose,” “Night of the Assassins,” “Sudden Death,” and The Wizard of Oz.”

Soy director. La lista de obras y musicales que he dirigido es larga. Algunas de ellas son: “Charlie y la fábrica de chocolates,” “Tragedia Cómica,” “Pinocho,” “La Mujer en Dudas,” “Pippin,” “Sexo Pudor y Lágrimas,” La Noche de los Asesinos,” “Muerte Súbita,” “José el Soñador,” y “El Mago de Oz.”

I am a writer. My articles, short stories, and poems have appeared in different venues. I recently write for a Latino gay magazine based in Los Angeles: ADELANTE MAGAZINE.

Soy escritor. Mis artículos, historias y poemas han aparecido en diferentes revistas. Por el momento, soy contribuyente para una revista Latina de índole gay de Los Ángeles: ADELANTE MAGAZINE.

For a while, I wrote for QVMagazine, several of my short stories were published with them. I also wrote for California West and two magazines based in Mexico City.

Por algún tiempo escribí para QVMagazine donde se publicaron varias historias. Después escribí para California West y otras dos revistas en la Ciudad de México.

A few years back, I wrote a story telling my personal gay-bashing experience. The story was published in an anthology titled “Out and about on campus: Personal accounts by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender college students.”

Hace unos años escribí una historia basada en mi experiencia personal cuando fui golpeado por ser gay. Esa historia se publicó en un libro titulado “Fuera del Clóset en la Escuela: Historias personales de estudiantes universitarios gay, lesbianas, bisexuales y transgéneros.”

I am a playwright. Several of my ten-minute plays, one-acts, and full-length plays have been produced. But Esno White, Henny Penny, and La Vida Loca have been the most commercially sucessful plays I have written.

Muchas de mis obras de un acto y de diez minutos se han producido en varios lugares, pero “No es Blanca,” “La Gallinita Ciega,” y “La Vida Loca” son las que más éxito comercial han tenido.

Only one of my plays has been published: ESNO WHITE. It appears on an anthology, which compiles contemporary plays, and I am honored to be among Steve Martin, David Henry Wang, and David Lindsay-Abaire.

Como dramaturgo, solo una de mis obras ha sido publicada: ESNO WHITE. Una obra infantil actuada por adultos, la cual cambia la historia de Blanca Nieves a “No Es Blanca.” Esta obra se publicó en una antología de obras contemporáneas y me da orgullo estar entre escritores como Steve Martin, David Henry Wang, y David Lindsay-Abaire.

Esno White is a bilingual (Spanish/English) children’s play based on Snow White. It teaches the importance of cultural identification, self-respect, and acceptance.

“Esno White” es una obra bilingüe (Español/Inglés) para niños basada en “Blanca Nieves.” Enseña la importancia de la identificación cultural, el respeto propio, y la aceptación.

Henny Penny is a children’s play with music, which offers moral lessons on friendship, loyalty, and sharing.

“Henny Penny” (La Gallinita Ciega)es un musical para niños que muestra la importancia de la amistad, la lealtad y la importancia de convivencia.

La Vida Loca is a one-man show, which relates my personal experiences as an immigrant, gay, Latino man. It touches on the subject to illegal immigration, homosexuality, cultural identity, religious identity, and assimilation and many other things, including Ricky Martin, Juan Gabriel and La Llorona.

“La Vida Loca” es una obra unipersonal, la cual relata mis experiencias personales como inmigrante, hombre gay, y hombre latino. Habla de inmigración ilegal, la homosexualidad, identidad cultural, la asimilación y muchas otras cosas, incluyendo Ricky Martin, Juan Gabriel, y La Llorona.

As you can see, I am a person who has done many things and I do them because like breathing, they are necessary for my existence. I don’t think I can live without being a writer, an actor, a playwright, a director, and a dancer. Without them, I have no passion for living. And without passion I have no life.

Como pueden ver, soy una persona que ha hecho varias cosas porque, como el respirar, necesito hacerlas para poder vivir. No puedo vivir sin escribir o actuar, o dirigir o bailar. Sin esas cosas, no hay pasión en la vida. Y sin pasión, no hay vida.

LAS VEGAS

Now that I caught up with the present, there are many things to talk about: personal life, love life, family, sex, achievements, my writing, my plays, theatre work, the reasons why I do what I do, etc... All those things will come in time. So for now, I want to talk to you about my recent trip to LAS VEGAS.

Ahora que ya llegué al presente, existen muchas cosas de que hablar: la vida personal, la vida amorosa, la familia, el sexo, las metas, lo que he logrado, las cosas que he escrito, mi trabajo en el teatro, las razones por las cuales hago lo que hago, etcétera... Todas estas cosas les contaré poco a poco. Por ahora, hablaré de mi reciente viaje a la ciudad de LAS VEGAS.

Everyone talks of Las Vegas as the sinful city. I guess it is if you do sinful things, but then again, it depends what you considered sinful. In my case, VEGAS is just another city.

Todo mundo habla de Las Vegas como la ciudad del pecado. Creo que por que allí puedes hacer cosas pecaminosas. Lo interesante es lo que tú, como persona, consideres “pecaminoso.” En mi caso, nada lo es así que Las Vegas es una ciudad más.

I am a social drinker, and at times I don’t even drink is social situations so drinking isn’t something I did in Las Vegas. I don’t gamble so that was out of the question. But I did go dancing and visited the many different hotels. I even saw a Broadway show: AVENUE Q. It was funny and very entertaining.

A mi no me gusta tomar. Si lo hago es en una situación especial y a veces ni en eso y Las Vegas no fue una excepción. Tampoco me gusta apostar así que es algo que no hice. Pero si visité la mayoría de los casinos y hoteles. También fui a bailar y hasta me aventé una obra de teatro.

If you ask why I went to Las Vegas, the answer is simple. I went because it was school related. And even though I didn’t drink, I didn’t smoke and I didn’t gamble, I had a great time. And if you don't believe me, just look at this picture.
