OLMEDO MUSEUM & TEC DE MONTERREY-MEXICO CAMPUS

ALL IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED AND THEY ARE MY PROPERTY. THEY ARE NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN
The Dolores Olmedo Museum has strong ties to Frida Kahlo. Doroles was a good friend of Frida and Diego; she was also Diego's art dealer. As a result, her house had an immense amount of paintings from both, but mainly from Diego.  The paintings and photographs are all originals but no one is allowed to take pictures. This paintings are not found in books.

Instead I took pictures of the outside. There dozens of peacocks all over the gardens.

To my delight, the museum also breeds the XOLOITZCUINTLI, which is the Mexican hairless dog. The type of dog Frida had at home. She loved these dogs. And after seeing them I love them too. They stay so still that you think they were statues. Very expensive, yet I still want one.

My good friend and colleague, Armin, who is a professor at El Tecnologico de Monterrey-Ciudad de Mexico, invited me over the campus before we both went to the museum. Here are a few things I found while visiting "The Tec."

A giant ALEBRIJE, which is a brightly Mexican folk art sculpture of fantastical creatures.
Like everyone else in the world, students love to joke around. The sign should say, "Ruta de Evacuation" (Evacuation Route) but someone removed one single line and now it says, "Puta de Evacuation" (Evacuation Whore.) I love it!
There is a beautiful mural in one of the buildings.

MEXICO CITY and LA CIUDADELA

The Latin American Tower

Bellas Artes, the Palace of Fine Arts. Only the greatest artists appear here. Frida Kahlo wake was in this place.

Botero sculptures.

Inside the Palace of Fine Arts. Told ya only the greatest artists appear here. I don't lie.

Mexico's fascination with "lucha libre" is seeing everywhere

A political group trying to convince people that the best thing to do is "get rid of him."

Hand made artifacts at La Ciudadela (Arts and Crafts Market)

Never mind the food. The dishes they used to serve me the food are impressived.

Sabina Berman's (Mexico's most prolific woman playwright) latest play: "The Narcos Negotiate with God."

I could not be in Mexico and not take a picture with my friend Einstein.

Two different parts of "Parque Mexico."

MORELIA-JANITZIO MICHOACAN

ALL IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED AND THEY ARE MY PROPERTY. THEY ARE NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN
Spent the weekend in Morelia, Michoacan. It's one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the country. While in Morelia, I visited three other small town, all with the purpose of buying stuff needed for the Frida play production.

A view of a downtown street at night. The Cathedral in the  background.

Morelia's famous arches totaling 253 and forming an ancient aqueduct build in 1785.

Morelia's famous 'Tarascas. Built in 1937 they have become a tourist attraction and symbol of the city.

Janitzio, Michoacan, the land of the Day of the Dead festivities. One of the most celebrated festivals in the country, and the most visited by tourists from all over the world. With its rustic streets still made of small rocks, and the famous boats taking you to the island.

Well, then. Apparently, I'm not as skinny as I thought.

Patzcuaro's most famous dance: La danza de los viejitos (The Dance of the Old Men)

And then there are the thousands of crafts made by the people of the town(s).

Hand made sandals... leather... and less than $20 a pair.

Yeap! Made by hand.

And let's not forget my favorite part: THE FOOD!!!!
 Chicken with mole and rice.

Quesadillas, made in five different distinct fillings and salsas.

2x1 drinks, made of local flavors, such as tamarind and lime. The alcohol, local too: arracheta

Dirty pozole... no tour typical pozole that's for sure.

Corundas: imagine a tamal, only made with different ingredients and a different maiz leaf.
White fish, a signature of the local towns.

Enchiladas michoacanas, all I can say is.... thank you!

One last picture... so you can see the majestic sight of  downtown's plaza and cathedral.

FRIDA'S PAINTINGS/DIEGO'S MURALS

ALL IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED AND THEY ARE MY PROPERTY. THEY ARE NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN

There are many Frida Kahlo paintings and sketches that are not well known. Here I share some of them.

The most intriguing murals made by Diego are at the National Palace in Downtown Mexico. Here is a collage of them in different ways.

And here's a collection of masks, just for kicks.

Some individual masks, my favorite being the white skull. It's just very intriguing.
