WHEN IN LONDON.... SHERLOCK HOLMES

ALL IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHTED AND THEY ARE MY PROPERTY. THEY ARE NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN

For the second time in the last four years, I have been lucky to be teaching a summer class in London. This second time is very excited because the Summer Olympics are happening right in this city so there is much to look forward to.

However, the Olympics have not started and I have a month of traveling to do. So, while in London and due to the fact that since I started watching the new SHERLOCK HOLMES series I have  been in love with such show, I decided to take a short trip to "BAKER STREET."

Here are some pics of such trip:

Sherlock Holmes statue is NOT located on Baker Street but rather on Marylebone Rd, which is, luckily, just about half a block from Baker Street. Why is the statue there? I can only assume because it is a centralized area for all visitors, and because it keeps visitors from congesting 221B Baker Street.

This is the EXIT from the TUBE on Baker Street. It isn't an entrance to the tube so people have to go around the corner to Marylebone Rd in order to enter the "Baker Street Station." As I face the exit, Sherlock Holmes house is behind me, to my left, and about 100 yards away.

Here you have 221B Baker Street, the number located on glass, above the Sherlock Holmes house entrance.

You can see the entrance to Sherlock Holmes House, which at the present day is a museum of "Sherlock Holmes' collectibles." To be honest, it is a disappointing museum, everything they have is unimpressive. You can actually see what they have if you visit the Sherlock Holmes website and click on the video. Trust me, what you see on the video is what you see in the house, not very much. And the video has better music.

The sign here is to the gift shop. The gift shop is actually MUCH more interesting than visiting the museum. In fact, people who went with me called the museum a "tourist trap" because there isn't anything interesting to see but a couple of dummies wearing period clothes and some artifacts that, honestly, look as if they were brought out from a garage sale.

Going to 221B Baker Street will prove to be more exciting if you simply visit the entrance and the shop. Going into the museum will prove to be a waste of time and money. Instead, take your picture outside the door, go into the shop, buy a souvenir and you are done!
